Still no support at work

I previously posted about my lack of training in a new job.

Well I've had 1 day training in a job I've never done.
I've been struggling and I've spoken to my manager and I've still not had any support.

I feel constantly stressed and ill with it now. I don't know anything and no one is helping me but will stress at me when I've made mistakes.
I feel so down and useless.

Creating a paper trail will serve you well if you need evidence in the future to prove lack of training. Speak to your manager again and ask when you'll receive training on xyz.

Then follow it up with a "Just to confirm on blah date we discussed my training need regarding blah. I highlighted I hadn't received blah and you confirmed that it would take place on/there wouldn't be any etc etc etc

When you say you need training, what do you mean exactly?

I think it would help if you can clarify to your manager specifically what you are having issues with and how you suggest they can support you to gain the required knowledge and skills.

It could be a combination of

  • on the job shadowing with a knowledgeable colleague, so you have time to ask questions
  • formal training course (internally or externally run)
  • documentation / manuals
  • ongoing coaching and mentoring

The above are options for you to work through with your manager, and for them to define the right approach.

Ask for dates by when these development options can be completed so you can perform your duties.

If any of the training relates to competencies you should know, coming into the new role, you can argue that you have your existing knowledge but there are gaps you want to close, in how things need to be done specific to the new role.
