Casual (zero hours) and holiday entitlement

I have a casual contract with a company working on average one day per week. I accrue holiday as I work. I had almost accrued another days holiday but my 'slate has been wiped clean' at start of the financial year. Is this fair/ok?

I understand not allowing holiday to be carried over so should have been paid any whole days owing (of had taken them all) but it seems unfair not to carry the time accrued over that does not create a whole day yet.

I may be missing a point here...

No that's not right. It's ok not to allow people to carry holiday over (as long as they've been given the opportunity to take it), but you accrue holiday for every hour you work, and clearly unless you end every year by taking holiday, most people on casual contracts like you will accrue some they haven't been able to take before the year end.

I assume you only get the statutory minimum?

Yes.

I've contacted my line manager to investigate.
