Work

Job for one day

I'm thinking of seeing if i can get a job just for one day, perhaps in a shop? So how would you approach this? Would you just go into places and say you're looking for a Sunday job do they have any? Would this put them off? What is best??

Don't lots of shops have just weekend jobs? A friend's DD works in a well-known shoe shop just on Saturdays, for example. It's certainly worth asking.

Daisy, how rude
I would ask in shops and bars, restaurants etc
Also look on Facebook job pages

I assume you mean one day a week?
I think it's a great idea, especially if you want to fit round dc.
I worked Sundays only when my dc were tiny and then took opportunities when they came up to increase my hours as the dc got older.
Supermarkets are often recruiting for weekend staff.

I work 4 days a week in my permanent job and I do an additional Wednesday and Saturday for other employers so I have three jobs.
So yes it is possible to get a single day job. I earn pretty good money for those days £250.
I got all my extra jobs by just ringing around so go for it.

Why bother ?

To pay bills !

Yes I'd ask in shops

I used to work every Saturday after looking after kids all week to top up our household income

Was a Saturday girl in a library at the grand old age of 35

They gave me extra hours on a casual basis when the kids started school so was definitely worth it

And that's why people bother daisychain

Would you do catering? Very flexible

I think daisychain thought the op meant just one day not one day a week. Hence 'why bother?'

I think daisy chain thought OP meant just a job for one solitary day, as a one-off, not one day a week, which was my initial thought too until I worked out what made more sense!

OP it is more than doable lots of places work on 0 hours contracts and you can ask to do one specific day if you want - however be prepared they might not always give you the same day, and also they will ask you to work more on occasion r.g around Christmas etc if shops/restaurant. It can even be a condition of the job you don't take leave around busy periods, just FYI.

You might have an advantage if you live in the area full time, as lots of jobs are done by students who go home on holidays, so stress that in your application if so Smile

Cinemas, leisure centres, garden centres also often do part time jobs as an alternative to shops

If you work just one day you are unlikely to meet tax threshold too so more of your pay stays with you!

Thank you everyone. To be honest it's more of a one day (every week) on top of my current job to get more money. I've never done this before always worked full time then just changed to 2 days at my job when had my little girl.

Newsagents/ general corner shops locally often just need a weekend person to cover the counter duties and stock the shelves/ sort and bundle newspaper deliveries. In the past, I have worked in our village shop on a regular basis for 1-2 mornings at weekends.
