Redeployment in NHS

I currently work as a band 6 in the NHS on a fixed term contract, due to expire in November 2107. Nothing has been confirmed, but the position I work in is due to be relocated (although my boss doesn't want this to happen as she will need to relocate too) probably Spring - Summer 2017.

I want to relocate, and hope to move in summer 2017, about 4 months before my contract expires. My current contract is fixed term for 2 years, but I will have had 3 years continuous service by this time. I haven't really been given an options for the future yet, because nothing has been confirmed and my contract isn't permanent, but am wondering how redeployment would work? Would I go on the redeployment register before the end of my contract and then find a suitable position, or would that only kick in after my contract has expired?

And for my colleague..... she has a permanent contract and is hoping for voluntary redundancy. Can she choose that or will she have to take redeployment in another department within the organisation?

Thank you!

I thought if you were on a fixed term contract it was just that - if it ends in Nov 2017 then you'd be unemployed at that point? You'd hope your contract would be extended but my understanding is redeployment would only happen if you have a permanent position.

I've also never heard of anyone ever getting voluntary redundancy in our health board. I was on secondment for almost 5 years with the understanding that I would be absorbed back into the main dept (I'm an AHP) if I had to go back to my permanent substantive post.

My post was extended year on year but often my official contract would run out on April 1st and I'd be told to stay where I was while they drummed up funding from somewhere to keep me on another year.

That's my understanding too - redeployment is only offered to people on permanent contract in our Board.

Voluntary redundancy is only offered in a few certain cases, so she would need to check if it's an option.

Same as Sir in our Trust too.

Redeployment is for permanent staff I mean.

That's one of the reasons why they offer fixed term contracts ....
