I work for a children's charity and We do DBS checks regularly. I had one DBS which was back within 7 days and another one which took over 2 months. Never experienced one taking as long as yours though. Have you moved around a lot or worked abroad? Is it an Enhanced DBS?

Are you working with adults or children?

If adults then you can get them to request a DBS first that will come back within 48 hours this will enable you to work.
You need to call them quoting your reference number as it should have been accelerated after I think it's 60 or 70 days.

I've moved around a lot and lived abroad, and needed an enhanced DBS for work. I think it took around 3/4 weeks at most.

Can you contact someone to ask what the reason for the delay might be?

Yeah I contact them and they say that the met police have not processed it yet and that it is classed as critical but they cant seem to say why it is taking so long apart from that it hopefully will be done soon. I cant even seem to get an answer why it is with the met police when I have lived in west midlands area all my life and only lived at 3 different properties all within west midlands. It is so annoying. It is for an NHS job so not particularly working closely with any age group as its for an outpatients clinic taking bloods.

My DS1 had the same experience recently... his took over 3 months to come through ..even though he already had one (Thames Valley Police area) for his main job! He was volunteering at the Special School where I work and school applied for him and another volunteer in April... they finally came through in August! So frustrating for everyone.

Quite a few of the DBS processing areas are massively failing to meet the deadlines :/

Yeah its getting unbelievable now as waiting over 4 months now for it and still no progress. The amount of job opportunities I have lost now because of this is ridiculous.

The company I use to process dbs have been coming back average 2 days. However some have come back the same time.

Can you call the person who applied for it and ask them to do a DBS first?

I tried DBS first but they say that as I may come into contact with children it cannot be done.

I have now waited over 120 days as they just say that the met police still have it and that its classed as critical but seen as its been at critical for over 3 weeks I don't think that means anything to them

Could they chase up the police? Sounds like it got lost somewhere along the way...

I know its beyond belief. I ring up regularly and keep getting told that they do have it and that its just in a backlog but think that this is ridiculous especially as I need it for a job
