Do you need a work permit to work in the UK?

Hello,
I am filling out an application for work. It says Do you need a work permit to work in the UK?
I am on visa through my husbands work and have it until the end of 2017 which means the answer is NO as I already have a permit to work? Or is the question asking do I normally need a permit or I am not a citizen and with permit, not sure if it makes sense? How do I answer if I am here on visa permitting me to work?

In your case the answer would be "I hold a valid work permit" or similar. I have never been asked this exact question but that is probably how I would phrase my answer.

It is whether your current status is eligible to work . Ie. You would be limited if on a tourist or student visa or as an asylum seeker.

I have a visa that allows me to work until the end of 2017 through my husband. So I think my answer is NO as I already have a work permit but not sure.

I think your answer is yes because you need to hold or obtain a work permit/ visa to be able to work in uk (ie you are not a uk or eu passport holder).

Your answer is 'yes' -but if it's a handwritten form add 'current visa valid until December 2017'. If it's an online form tick yes then add that information in the personal statement.

Because I am a partner of work permit holder… HM confusing, will cll HR tomorrow.

The permission to work applies to your DH. It is tied to him and his job. It does not apply to you.
What nationality are you?
What does it say on your entry stamp into the UK when you arrived as his dependent?

The employer is trying to satisfy that you have the right to work in the UK. So the answer is no I do not require a work permit as I am entitled to work through my husband's work visa which is valid until December 2017.
If you are successful they may need to see and copy your husbands work visa to show in the event of an HMRC immigration check that they have checked that you are entitled to work.

I am american. They said to say yes today when I asked.
They said it is just a trigger for them to check my passport.
