Receiving p45 without resigning or being told I've been let go..

..Or is the p45 a standard way of being told I no longer work for them?

I've been on extended leave from the company - I have no minimum hours in my contract and this was an agreement from both ends. I was due to return later this year. I've been with them 2years+ on the same contract so technically should be given 2 weeks notice (I think?)

I guess my questions are
a) Can they just send a p45 out of the blue - no letter of explanation etc, just the p45 (parts 1,2&3)
b) Am I entitled to anything regarding not being given any notice, not resigning, and not been told I'm being let go?
c) Is it worth double checking if I'd accrued any holiday pay etc that they are due to pay me, and if so how can I find out?

Thank you!

Ring ACAS and ask for their advice. They're good.

It's worth calling the company (follow up with an email which briefly outlines the conversation- in fact write down your points first) to enquire.
If you know a manager or HR person, try them, if not then ask payroll.
Sometimes it does happen that p45's go out in error...it is possible. Or someone might have entered a date that was wrong and the whole thing was triggered automatically.
Check that all out first before going gung ho about notice and holiday pay!
If you were on unpaid leave you probably don't have holiday accrued.
If they say you have in fact resigned or been dismissed, as them how and why, and ask them to put the reason in writing- then ring acas for advice!!!
Hope it all works out ok though, what a shocker!

Thank you both re ACAS - I will have a look.

tired it's a small company so I highly doubt anything is done automatically there iyswim, and they've let a few people go in the past year (though I think they were told they no longer had a job ha!)

I've done it- I accidentally generated a p45 for someone on leave, found out when they rang up very angry!

If you are a zero hours type worker, we often "clear out" any who have not worked for a year, then you get taken "back on" if you protest that you do want to still work!

We remove people from our zero hour register if they don't work in a 3 month period, they get paid 12.1% on top of their hourly rate to cover holiday pay so don't accrue holidays in the same way
