Leaving with no where to go

The job I am currently in is not the one I signed up to. Over the past 12 months the job I am in has got worse and worse not just for me but others in my team also we are having more and more expected of us with no extra resources and no extra support. It culminated in my being signed off work with anxiety for 6 weeks. I have now been back in a week and on of the senior team has been nothing but vile and condescending to me. I have a number of interviews lined up but don't think I can cope with the company I am in until I leave. I don't know whether for my own sanity I should leave and simply concentrate on interviews has anyone done this

It's risky to leave with nothing to go to as you have no idea when you will get another job. I haven't done it but I know someone who did and it took them a very long time to find something else, in hindsight for two reasons one they had left their old post and that didn't look good wnen applying for another job and secondly the rules about claiming benefits if you resign are quite tough.

They had assumed having interviews meant they'd very soon get an appropriate job but unfortunately it didn't work out like that and they ended up in a worse position mentally and difficulty searching for an alternative job.

Its a very hard decision to make - he thought about it for a very long time before doing it and like you was very miserable in his work place and felt it the right thing to do, but he (and I, as the person he asked advice from Blush thought it best for his mental health for him to leave and concentrate on getting something else and it didn't work out well.

Obviously this is just his experience, honestly if I was offering advice to him now I'd say stick at the job for awhile (set a time limit for yourself) and apply for other work as well - because you have the security of that work and won't have difficult questions about resignation at interviews (which I know he hated).

I don't know if that helps at all.

I've left two jobs with nothing to go.
The first time I was out of work for for 2,weeks, the second 6 weeks. I was lucky that they were short periods but my god it was stressful. The worry was horrific.

I'm in a similar position in that I am extremely unhappy in my current role though it is well paid and safe. I'm looking like mad for something

It's easier to find a job when you already have one so unless you have money to live on for a while wait it out till you find something new.

That's disgusting, no wonder you want to leave Sad. Do you have a HR dept? If so, put a complaint in.

Can you afford to have a break between jobs? I know some people who could manage a few months. I could manage about one month. It makes a big difference to how feasible it is to leave without something else to go to.

Please log all the incidents where the manager is being vile and condescending. Is there another manager you can talk to about it at all?
