fixed contract

hi all. the position is advertised as permanent but they said the first 1 year is fixed contract..and then the next contract would be permanent. is there a way to negotiate to have permanent contract with 1 year probation clause? thank you.

Everything's negotiable ..... Difference is whether they'd go for it or not.
I'd probably want to know why they didn't want to go straight to a "normal" permanent contract - whatever that reason is, is going to depend how happy I'd be with the rest of the terms & conditions.

They presumably think the fixed 1 year option is better for them ....
Is this normal for the job / industry?

What difference do you think it would make? They could call it permanent from day one and still sack you easily at a year if they wanted, if that's your concern.
