Work

Shocked by recent employee

Hired two members of staff for my team 6 weeks ago.
One is very good.
The other one was lazy, a drama queen and not good when she actually did the work she was employed to.
Every day she would come in with a different issue, and asking to leave early, take longer lunches or generally making excuses not to do the work.

Not only this, she has been highly unprofessional, and talking about her bosses (me one of them) behind their backs to other members of staff.

She left before being let go on Wednesday this week.

I have now had abusove texts from her this afternoon.

This has made me feel upset and I am embarrassd to feel this way.
I have never known anyone be as unprofessional in the workplace ever.

I can't stop thinking about it, and am annoyed at myself for letting it get to me.

Just needed to vent.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a rant. She's gone now and if she keeps sending the abusive texts you can say

Do not text me again. Any further contact will be considered harassment and reported to the police.

And if she continues report her to the police.

Is she texting your personal phone? I hope you've reported her if so. It's no wonder you are upset, she sounds awful. Can you have her number blocked?

On the plus side, she has actually gone. If she was at my place our HR team would be so weak we'd end up having to keep her forever. (I think they might draw the line at abusive texts but I couldn't swear to it).

Perhaps when you're over this dreadful bit you might reflect on whether you had any misgivings in interview. It sounds quite possible that you didn't get an inkling of her during the interview, but if you did have a niggle and put it to one side - my advice is always listen to that when interviewing. However, that's a conversation for another day.

The important first step is to get this horrible person out of your phone and out of your life.

Thanks.

I haven't responded, but if she does send any more I will do just that.

I wouldn't expect this sort of behaviour of a 16 year old let alone a 25 year old.

Well I have had more threatening texts today.

So I have changed my mobile number now to stop any more as its really distressing to receive them.

I've had my mobile number since having my first mobile so its going to be hard to get used to.

Feeling sad

Take the texts to the police.

Report her for harassment and tell hr she's not to be employed again and why. Did she come through an agency? Show them the texts.

I think I will now that they had continued over the weekend.

What do they do with the information?

No agency, came through a recommendation of someone who no longer works here too. Neither of them will be working for us again.
The MD is well aware of the texts

Please go to the police. I would be really pissed off to have to change my mobile number, I've had it for many years. Have you asked the phone company to block her mobile?

she could be charged with threatening behaviour, or harassment

I would be taking the messages to the police, are they threatening? She mustn't be allowed to get away with it!

What is your interview process, do you do any desk top tests or verbal practices?

We do telephone interview and then assessment afternoons before final face to face interview and then the successful candidate starts on a 6 month probation period. We also gain references before offering a contract.

I second (or third!) taking these to the police. It's harrassment, pure and simple. She's breaking the law.

Yy to the police.

But can you buy a cheap PAYG and transfer your old number to it and keep it turned off till it's sorted?
