I'm looking for some advice about my current work situation. I have contacted CAS (I'm in Scotland) but have had no reply as yet.
Two weeks ago today, a meeting took place which involved 4 member of the executive team, a minute taker plus 3 staff from the department I work. We were told that, as we know, the organisation has been under review for over a year now and that they have decided to change job descriptions/roles with in this department (other departments have changed too). This will mean that our current jobs will be redundant and if we do 60% of any new role created we will automatically be deployed, otherwise we can apply for one of the new roles but there will be no guarantees. I don't know at this time if the new roles will be advertised externally but I do know that other staff in the organisation will be free to apply too. We will also lose our term of service. Alternatively we can take redundancy. The new jobs are supposed to be finalised today and we should hear soon about what's happening.
Abit of background:
I work in the Voluntary Sector and was on maternity leave from February last year. During the year I was off my boss stepped down into another role and a new manager was brought in. I found this out firstly via another staff member then by a sessional worker who was also on maternity leave but had been emailed about the job advertisement and changes despite not working this department. I was never officially informed until I contacted them 8 weeks prior to returning to work in November last year.
Before going on maternity leave my job was full, varied and very busy. Since returning a lot has been changed and take off me, none of which has been discussed with me. It took my new manager 4 months to meet with me, and in this meeting when I explained my role she replied "oh I wondered what you did".
Since returning it is clear to me that with a few new members of staff there is quite a pals act going on between a new manager in a different department, my new manager and the CE. I'm possibly wrong to think this way but it very much feels like this is their opportunity to create roles for those whos face fits. It would be very easy to create jobs that is say 50% of each current role.
There has been an instance (different department) recently where a manager was promoted and a job was created as her assistant (at quite a substantial salary - despite the review all being about lack of funds) and the one person who has worked in that department for many years who everyone thought the ideal candidate didn't get the role but another person did (this persons contract was coming to an end and is very friendly with the group). This now leave the department overstaffed and one or more jobs under threat of redundancy.
Something just doesn't seem right, and I don't know if what they are doing is legal, or just barely, and it seems very unfair. It may be coincidental but in the example above the person who got that job was not the person with the most knowledge nor experience for the role but the person who goes on nights out with the group!
Sorry for the long post, any advice would be appreciated.
