Jobsharer leaving - does remaining post holder get the job full time?

Thanks I know it would've been nice to have been asked the first time. So if they do ask this time I will consider it.

What procedure do you think they may not have followed last time OP? You were not entitled to the job full time if that's what you mean?

In terms of your question as to what you say if they ask you to increase your hours this time, you say yes if you want to do that, and no if you don't. Sounds like you would like more hours so that would be a yes. Don't cut your nose off to spite your face if you are thinking of saying no to make some kind of point.

Hi thanks for reply. Ithink given the situation the last time and what happened they have to ask me. I would like more hours but not full time. Also part of me feels if I was not successful last time what's changed.

Just wondered if they followed procedure correctly last time.

Hi update to this post is surprise surprise I didn't be the other half of job - after a protracted process we had hr involved as my manager said there was a personality clash between us and said she couldn't give me feed back on why I didn't get job.

Now 6 months later things have come full circle and the current job share holder is leaving! I have been once bitten twice shy so just wondering what to say if they ask me to increase hours as a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. I don't want to appear petty but I feel the situation is ironic given what happened in the past.

Hi thanks for reply. Yes manager is aware that I would increase hours. I said as much that I would just put in application for post to her. Interesting to see if I get an interview. Today had a one to one with my line manager after advice from hr re post being advertised without days being stipulated. Apparently he had been told by manager not to discuss the vacancy with me! I asked who I could turn to for support and he alas said ask hr!

Does your manager know you would be interested in full time hours? I'd usually consider giving the existing job share person the full time post if they wanted more hours, as it saves recruitment costs. Assuming there's no reason why two people would be better than one it's worth asking.

Hi update the post has been advertised and the work days haven't been stipulated ie to dovetail with the days I currently work. Does that mean they can ask me to change my days or can I refuse?

It's dfor 15 hours. I said that I think difficulties arise as job sharing doesn't work with this post. However it will be like the blind leading the blind if someone else new comes in as a lot of job is working knowledge. I suppose there is nothing to stop me applying for vacant hours when they advertise post.

At my previous place of work where job sharing was common the other half of the job would be advertised and you could apply for it along with anybody else - best person for the job would get it.
We've had people doing two different job share jobs half time each when they wanted full-time hours.

Is your contract a part time contract with a stipulated number of days/hours? If so, I would not expect you to be automatically be offered the full time hours.

Hi I am currently job sharing and my job share partner is retiring very suddenly. However I expected I might be asked to do extra hours but it has been intimated that this won't happen. I have only been in post 6 months and there have been a few issues which have been exacerbated by two people doing the same job and having no handover period. It has been highlighted there are difficulties with this on my part due to tasks not being completed. I feel as if I am firefighting all the time and wonder if it's a good opportunity to leave as my contract ends anyway on 31st March this year.

However I was given the option of extending my original contract to 31st March next year but haven't accepted yet as tbh I really need more hours.
