Work

Sales target as a part timer

Hi, I work in a B2b sales environment and have been in this job for 12 months. I have done pretty well and brought in quite a bit of new business. The sales targets for 2013 have been set by my line manager who has a target of his own. There are a number of inequities in how these have been set in my view( I recognise many sales people feel this way.) There are 4 team members in total. There is one member who has a very large and established territory, and his target is by far the highest. The three other members including myself and my boss, all have the same target. However I am 80% working 4 days a week. My territory is not larger, and I have less renewable business in my territory than they which is part of my concern. However, Would I be unreasonable to note than in effect I have a higher target than they, because I have less time to achieve it? Interested to hear thoughts on this.

Well, yes, targets should ordinarily be pro rated for part timers as you do have less time to achieve them (and are presumably costing them less?). The sticking point is that targets for full time staff seem to vary as well.

I would suggest speaking to your manager and asking for clarification on how targets are set, what factors are taken into account. If your reduced hours haven't already been taken into account, and you are likely to be penalised financially as a result, then that's something to address.

Thanks flowery. I will ask them what factors have been considered. Feel like I am constantly wrangling over things at the moment. And yes, I certainly do cost them less. Sad
