could someone tell me if there is a law about how long a Break needs to be.

For example an employee's usual working day is 8.30-5 so 7.5hrs with an hour for lunch.

They are now changing their working hours to 8.30-3. They would like to take a 15 min break but their boss is telling them it has to be a 30 min break.

Could you tell me if 15mins is allowed if that's what the employee wants or should it really be half hour?

Thank you in advance

Well, two thing. Firstly by law breaks need to be a minimum of 20 minutes when an employee works 6 hours or more, so 15 minutes wouldn't be allowed.

But regardless of that, the employee doesn't get to choose the length of their breaks. As long as they meet the minimum legal requirements, the employer can certainly insist on 30 minutes if they want to, and that would be a far more responsible thing to do anyway. Even if 15 minutes met the legal minimum, the employer would certainly be within their rights to say no to that.
