Hi Guys,

I was made redundant 2 weeks ago with no notice. I am 16 weeks preg and I just want to ask if anyone knows If I will still receive mat pay from the government if i am still unemployed by the time comes to have my baby. I hold not much hope of getting a job because you know im preggers and an employer will just find some reason not to employ me. I wne to citizens advice and the advisor never really anwered my question she just kept saying your employers claims stat mat pay from the government so im a bit confused. Please can anyone help or has this happened to anyone else? thanks so much :)

You won't get statutory maternity pay from your employer, but you will probably be entitled to maternity allowance (assuming you were employed for six months before you were made redundant, or you can get up to six months' total by getting a new job now).
