help needed for my teenager

Can anyone advice whether my 17 year old has any rights whilst on a three month trial?
He managed to secure a saturday job at the end of October and was advised he was initially on a three month trial.
on Christmas eve the manageress advised him he has 4 weeks to change her mind as his body language is a problem and she finds it hard to believe he has been there 8 weeks, it feels like 4.
Despite this he gets on well with all the other staff, has on some days had the highest sales figures and is usually in the top 3 for sales on his days in.
He isn't the most confident young man and he would agree he has taken a while to get into the swing of things.
he is tense when the manageress is around, but so is everyone as she does appear to be permanently angry (that's not me being biased, before he worked there, she had a reputation for her attitude)
So basically i would appreciate any advice and can she finish him, basically because she can't take to him?

I'm pretty sure that he would have no rights regarding unfair dismissal as this only kicks in after one years service (unless it is on discriminatory grounds). Sorry.

Short answer is yes she can dismiss him without even giving a reason at this stage. Seems very strange to do so because of his body language if his sales are good, but ultimately she can if she's so inclined, yes.

I imagine he is a victim of the temp christmas job, so all the "temps" work well under the impression it will carry on, rather than larking about. which unfortunatly some will, so they are looking for people who are not looking for a temp job.
Now she has too look for get outs so next Oct your Son hasn't bad mouthed the company because he is embarressed and they can employee the new batch of victims.
My brother had this happen to him 20 odd years ago, and 2 months after they sacked him after the christmas rush, they phoned him to offer another job for the spring/Summer rush, I worked a McD's for 3 years and at least they where honest in the dead months of Jan/feb, you knew that you would be lucky to pull a 4 hour shifts once a week, but once it picked up I would get more hours.
