Apologies in advance for the long post riddled with worries, questions and insecurity
My DH and I are planning on moving to the UK in the summer of 2012. He?s an industrial engineer who is currently working as the operations manager in a company in the semi-conductor industrial. His previous job was production manager at the same company.
We understand that he won?t get a job at the same level he?s currently at with no UK work experience, and he?s even willing to going back to work as an entry-level industrial engineer if he can?t get a job in a management position. But since he is the main earner in the family and we have 3 DDs we?re concerned that he won?t be able to get any job in his field due to the fact that he?ll be a foreigner and won?t have any local references/work history.
English is his second language ? although he did study it for years at school and has been with me (a native Eng speaker who is a qualified English teacher) for 14 years so he?s completely fluent.
We?re both very excited about moving to the UK, but I must admit that moving to a new place when he doesn?t have promise of work is frightening to say the least. But since he can only apply for work once we have our visas finalized ?which will be 3 months before we arrive so around April ? we don?t seem to have any other option...
I?ve heard there are job centers and agencies that can help you find work, and I?m wondering how and when it would be best to find and then contact some of them?
We have friends and family in various parts of the UK but will eventually settle wherever DH will have the best job options available?but how do we figure that out? We?ve been looking online at various companies in the semi-conductor industry but does anyone have any information about areas in the UK that have more (low-level) high-tech industry/semi-conductor centers than other places?
I telecommute for an American-based company so we will have some money coming in after we move?but only about 1500 to 2000 pounds a month ? but that?s not enough to keep a family of 5 without dipping into our savings every month until DH finds a job?
ARGGHH can you tell how stressed I am about all this? LOL
Any advice/information anyone can give would be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks
