If so, what do you do?

I feel like I'm surrounding by workplace negativity at the moment and would love to hear some more positive stories.

I sahm and don't love it, but my dh genuinely loves what he does. He is a self employed tv sports journalist and he gets real pleasure from going to work 99 days out of 100.

I don't love what I do at the moment. Actually, I hate it. sad

However, I really loved a previous job and would have done it for nothing if I could have afforded to. That was working for a charity, and I knew that I was making a real difference to people's lives. The pay wasn't great, but I really wasn't bothered.

Life is short. You shouldn't spend it in a job you hate. Is there any way you could do something else instead?

Thanks magicmummy. It's not actually that I hate what I do exactly. More that I work for a horrible company who treat their staff badly. The atmosphere is particularly unpleasant just at the moment. The company are very well-established in their field with most of their competitors being relative newcomers. Unfortunately this makes them think that they can behave however they like and their staff will still bow down to them just because of their reputation.

I'm actually interviewing for another job tomorrow. Although my best friend from work interviewed for the same job today and has said she noticed when she signed the visitors' book that half our department had been to interview for it too!

If I won the lottery I'd go to work on Monday.

Im a health librarian and I really enjoy my job.

Previous to that I was a bookseller and literally would have worked for nothing (Caveat: had I been independently wealthy). But the industry changed and I got tired of being paid very little - as I was not independently wealthy - which is why I moved on.

Thanks suzikettles. That's good to hear.

Nobody else?!

I'm a Visual Presentation Manager for a department store.

I spend my days doing window displays and styling mannequins. Not very altruistic but lots of fun.

There are boring bits too, but on the whole I love it.

Not sure I'd do it for nothing though grin

bigTillyMint Fri 27-May-11 18:22:56

Yes. I genuinely love what I do. And the people I work with. On the wholewink

I am a specialist teacher.

cjbartlett Fri 27-May-11 18:25:29

How did the interview go? Did you get the job?
My dad loved his job
he was gutted when he retired ( kind of medical
profession )

Work in Early Years and I LOVE it. Was very high powered in a former life and loathed it - now doing what I should have done 25 years ago.

MeantToStopAtTwo Fri 27-May-11 18:33:18

Thanks for asking cjbartlett. The interview went well. Slightly awkward situation though as my best friend from work is very set on that particular organisation and it would be hugely convenient for her. I'd therefore be delighted for her if she got it.

I love my job (primary teacher) - every day there is at least one thing that makes me laugh out loud. I'm not so keen on the adult side of it somedays, but 8.45 - 3.15 is what gets me out of bed in the morning.

Hope you find something new to suit you smile

DesolationAngel Fri 27-May-11 18:41:11

I work in Early Years Educaton and love it.

ivykaty44 Fri 27-May-11 18:43:59

I love what I do - but still surrounded by negative vibes from all around - but love the punters and love helping the punters, just a shame I work with people with so many agendas they can't even remember their own agendas and pass them round grin

GentleOtter Fri 27-May-11 18:46:54

I love my work too - I work on a my dh's farm.
Every day is different, the weather and pay can be dire, you deal with the filthiest jobs ever and dress like something from a country flitting. I would not change it for the world.

This career change only happened about ten years ago - I was studying medicine at university but now drive a tractor and deliver slippery calves or lambs into the world.
I hope you find work that makes you happy, MeantToStop. What would be your dream job?

Sloobreeus Fri 27-May-11 18:51:14

Work for a politician. I love it. And please - have never seen a gravy train and am constantly aware that what funds it all is public money.

Cartoonjane Fri 27-May-11 18:52:24

Yes I love my job. I am a part time secondary school teacher who just teaches A level. I put a lot in and find it very rewarding. I wouldn't give up if I won the lottery.

fluffles Fri 27-May-11 18:53:22

i love what i do but i have the circumstances in which i'm currently doing it.
i'm going to be redundant sometime later this year, so i'm planning to try doing what i do freelance... it's scary but i haven't got anything to lose as with cuts i can't find a job, i reckon i can earn more freelance than job seekers allowance would bring in.

fluffles Fri 27-May-11 19:00:00

sorry, that should read hate the circumstances in which i'm currently doing it.

[clearly i'm not a proof reader]

kakapo Sun 29-May-11 23:45:58

i am a scientist and most days i love what i do smile

RobynLou Mon 30-May-11 00:05:14

I make puppets and design sets and costumes for theatre,
I'd definitely still work if we won the lottery, I'd just be able to pick and choose projects, and fund some myself.

SnowWoman Mon 30-May-11 00:09:09

I'm a school librarian in a primary school - absolutely love it!

Gerrof Mon 30-May-11 00:31:20

I would also go to work if I won the lottery.

I feel very very very fortunate to be working where I am. It is wonderful. I also feel very positive because I have recently left the worst company in the world.

I am an aeronautical engineer by profession and after years working in manufacturing I now work in procurement project in particle physics research and innovation. I still clutch myself with glee at my luck in working there.

Gay40 Mon 30-May-11 00:43:45

My issue is that I both love and hate it.

Ambi Mon 30-May-11 00:55:56

I love my job, Purchase Ledger Manager for a Music Instrument retailer. I get to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds of other peoples money buying guitars and pianos. It's great. I wish I had more money (doesn't everyone) my holidays are basic but it's a fab company with lots of long time staff.
