moving for ft to pt and accrued holiday??

my contract is due to end at the end of july. i have been told that an application for an extension of up to 3months is in the pipeline.

however, it will not be any longer, so i want to ask for pt hours so i can study from early september and also put time into looking for work for afterwards.

however... by end of july i will have 6.5 days of annual leave accrued that i will not be able under any circumstances to take. if i get the additional 3 months at 4/5 of ft will i still be able to take 6.5 days leave? or will i only get 4/5 x 6.5?

i need all the leave i can get as i made commitments to study when i thought i'd be unemployed and it'll be a struggle to do both as it is.

1st february so this will all happen within a holiday year.

i had 6 p&p and 15 days AL to take 1st feb to 31st july but due to nature of project i have taken the p&p but wll be 6.5days short of taking all my AL for business reasons.

if i get another 3 months ft i'll get another 2 p&p and 7.5 AL to take before end Oct

if i go pt for the 3 months at 4 days i'd get 4/5 x 2 p&p and 4/5 x 7.5 but the question is do i still get the outstanding 6.5 days?

i have to study from 1st sept and i need those 6.5days if any chance of juggling.. otherwise will have to turn down the contract extension Sad

i've tried googling but it's hard to say.. my HR dept are not great and my boss rules with an iron fist and is not approachable, i have to know what's what before i even raise the idea of going pt (which i only think i've got a chance at as it'll make me cheaper!)

I think you should indeed get those days. Get all your numbers ready to present to HR or whoever you approach about going part time.

Once you've accrued the leave, it's yours. Holiday you accrue from the date your hours change will be at the new lower rate. Holiday you've already accrued is in the bank.

fantastic - thank you so much for confirming!

i think i can probably do this extension and study at the same time for the 4-6 weeks they cross over IF they will let me do 4days a week.

i sort of think they will because although my boss not keen on pt the extension is for tidying up / handing over / snagging and so can easily be done on 4days a week and it's cheaper for the organisation to not pay me ft.
