Possible offer of job but still got interview elsewhere

What to do / say? My DH was made redundant at end July - still on Garden Leave - applied for three jobs - have interviews /\assessments.....

Got an unofficial / informal job offer - waiting for confirmaiton, etc but in meantime have final interview with another employer for a better job. Interview is not until next week - what should he do?

The first job (unofficially know been sucessful from source) is an easy job for hom at a lower level and answer would be yes definately if no other things in pipeline.

However, the second job is about 1/3 more salary, closer to home, etc and is a job at a similar level to previous job. He is likely to be offered this job from other sources who reckon 3rd interview is a formaliity (if it was only so easy!)

The hypothetical question is what does he do? Accept the first job, go for interview with oher company and then see if offered job? If doesnt get 2nd job, still has a new job - happy days!

OR

Tell first job needs to think about it or even come clean about 2nd job interview, see what happens then make decision?

I have my opinion on what he should do but thought I would canvass the MN jury! I know honesty is the best policy but is it better to be more economical with the truth?

If you have got this far - great and thanks!!

Well how quickly will they get the offical job offer letter out to him for the first job?

Wait to see what second interview says. Most people will agree to waiting a week for answer, tell them your away for a few days if you have to.

Good point - it has taken two weeks from interview to get unconfirmed offer! Slow moving indeed!

I have told him to speak the the 2nd job HR girl tomorrow to puch for an early interview next week if possible.

I would just be honest and tell the first lot that he has another interview pending and you want to see outcome of that before making final decision. Also tell second lot have an offer on the table and would it be possible to bring interview forward. It is never a bad thing to let people know you are in demand, can often result in improved offers. Smile

I have done exactly this in the past and had a higher offer as a result.

until the job offer is formalised, he should be able to go to whatever interview he wants.
if they offer it before he goes for the other interview, he asks for a couple of days to think about it.
he's under no obligation to a job he hasn't been offered yet?!!!
