Will coronavirus affect care home visits? We are really concerned as our frequent visits are keeping our elderly parent calm. She is unsettled since moving

Have you contacted the home to see what their policy is, or is likely to be?

Only the home will be able to answer that, and I suspect it will change over the next few weeks depending on how things move along. Give them a ring.

If you are new to the world of care homes you also need to be aware homes often reduce visiting during episodes of D&V/Norovirus.

Having similar wobble with regard to carers visiting DMum 3 x week. There is nothing on care company website so I will be calling them next week to find out what their plans are.

I've been wondering about this too. My dad is happy and content and I visit alternate weeks, (I live quite far and have siblings who go more often). I went this week but am concerned by the thought that I could unknowingly pass it on and wipe half of them out. Dads pretty sturdy health wise but there are many they aren't.
I'm thinking that the home will send something kind of guideline but we already know what they'd be (wash hands, don't come of been in contact with someone with it or come back from affected area etc)

Here in Ireland all visits to nursing/care homes are stopped except in end-of-life situations.

@Drinkandknowthings that's interesting to hear, I suspect that the same will/ should happen here

I am much more concerned about elderly people who are living on their own at home supported by carer visits. What are the plans for them if they are infected? Would the carers still visit?

What about all those with private carer arrangements? What happens if their carers get sick?
