Broken hip and complex health problems (heart failure/copd)

My Mum fell and broke her hip last night, she has MS and Osteoporosis and she is fiercely independent so it think it was inevitable. Dr are meeting today to discuss her ‘complex needs’ mainly heart failure and COPD. They will operate today or tomorrow depending when the specialists are able to meet.

Currently Mum and Dad live at home and it’s only since Dad who has multiple health problems himself had another knee replacement that we have managed to get to agree to help at home from a lovely lady who does everything except personal care.

I’m really worried about her surviving the operation, her recovery afterwards and the long term impact it will have on her health.

I don’t think I can visit today as I’m stuck with a cluster feeding new born.

oh dear, it has all come at once. Once mum has got over her op do speak with the ward manager about the home situation, she may well be in hospital for a few days and they need to think about rehab for her, maybe in a local community hospital or at home if they can manage, some hospitals also have places in local carehomes for a few weeks. I hope it all goes well and she makes a good recovery and congratulations on your new baby.

Thanks. She is in theatre now. They have put a dnr in place and warned us that there is a good chance she won’t make it.
