Missed Care Visit

I wondered whether anyone had any experience of missed home care visits? My Grandad was in hospital this week after spending the night on the floor and not pressing his call button. His carer found him in the morning when she arrived. He is now back at home thankfully and I have increased his visits from carers to 4x a day. This morning it has come to light that no carers have been this morning. I have called the out of hours number but it was basically just a carer who was unable to look into it until she got home! She said it looks like no carer was scheduled to go this morning but has been unable to explain how this has been missed (he has had a morning visit for several months) I feel so let down. I work full time, I have 2 primary age children and i am relying on them to look after him so I know that all is well. I’ll phone the office tomorrow to see what the situation is but wondered whether anyone had similar experiences of missed visits. Until now i had thought the care agency were fantastic and now I feel like it’s something else to worry about!

We had millions of 'missed' visits over the years. Especially after short visits to hospital for falls. The service just isn't joined-up enough.

Also, we almost never had the same person twice. Turnover of staff was very high.

Yeah, caring is a shit job for bad money - happens a lot.

We have private carers. We have previously had carers from the council and the hospital. Their selling point is that they are expensive but they like to get what you get pay for. They pay staff much above minimum wage to try and keep turnover low. He is supposed to have 2 named carers and 2 stand in carers which was what has been happening and it’s all been running smoothly but one of the carers is off for a long weekend and it seems to have gone to pot! I’m so frustrated I’m relying on these people to check on him as I can’t always be there. His regular carer has called me 3 days this week with issues and one day he was in hospital so to have missed a morning call is unacceptable. I’m just so disillusioned I’m not sure it would be any different anywhere else!

We're quite new to this world but have just sacked the first care agency as they didn't turn up and didn't let us know. Unfortunately it seems quite common, we've found a family run more expensive one that we are meeting tomorrow so hopefully they'll be better but it's a nightmare
