Transition from short term care

MIL is at home following a blood clot in leg and a fall. She came home with a 6 week short term care package. Free for 6 weeks then will need to pay. Carers come for 15 mins 3 times a day to prepare food. Long term considering private who can help with domestic duties also. Any recommendations please?

Home instead have franchises across the country- v good reputation. Ask for local reccomendations- social workers etc might hint.

Yes Home Instead have a very good reputation. I don’t know the area so cannot recommend but seek out word of mouth recommendations, read CQC reports and ask how about staff turnover - in my experience staff turnover is a great indicate of a good service

Get an adult social services assessment at the end of the six weeks and apply for attendance allowance if you haven’t already. My mum was able to get a subsidised rate for her carers even though she had savings above the limit. Age UK were very good at getting the Attendance alllowance forms filled in (not means tested based on physical needs).
