My mum has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers. She lives with my dad. He is starting to struggle. She still goes shopping alone but is increasingly confused, forgetting how to use her cards to pay etc. She can find her way home but is getting more confused. Doesn't know the day or date but is oriented to time. Is forgetting how to cook, leaves the gas on etc. Gets distressed at times because she is confused/can't work things out and so on. I am abroad. I think it is time to start exploring what might be available to them in terms of services etc going forward. Cold anyone advise am nOT sure where to start. Thank you.

Hi Albert, your dads first port of call should be the adult social services team in their local area - you can normally self refer to them, and they are the gateway to care services.
If your dad is worried by the thought of socal services, then the local carers centre may be able to help, as will Age UK.

Thank you so much for your response. They have a number for their local alzheimers nurse which was given to them by the psychiatrist so I was going to encourage him to contact her in the first instance - is that a good idea?

Sounds like a good plan- someone who is an expert and also local.
