Currently lying on the floor of dads care home room in a desperate attempt to prevent a repeat of last night.
I've stopped him falling out if bed twice so far. I know what happens now. He's been sleeping on his side facing into the room ( where he was put - he doesn't reposition himself)
As he slept he curled into a bit more of a C shape. At some point either in a deliberate effort to get out ( not likely as he's not awake) or just curling up more his feet slide out of bed to the knee. He can't sit up as you would normally do then. I've just been hanging onto his legs and he was hanging onto the bedside table till we were rescued. The sensor that's supposed to tell them when he starts getting up was triggered by me diving across to catch him not by his feet " getting out".
This time he's well over to the wall and almost on his back. Hopefully that will help.
I know bed rails are not used in the home. I can't help thinking that what he needs - he isn't struggling / climbing it's a gentle passive curling that sticks his feet out I think.
Is there anything anyone else has encountered that would help? They don't use fitted sheets or id be tempted to try the toddler bed trick with the pool noodle at the edge !
