Help! Alternatives to bed rails ?

Currently lying on the floor of dads care home room in a desperate attempt to prevent a repeat of last night.

I've stopped him falling out if bed twice so far. I know what happens now. He's been sleeping on his side facing into the room ( where he was put - he doesn't reposition himself)

As he slept he curled into a bit more of a C shape. At some point either in a deliberate effort to get out ( not likely as he's not awake) or just curling up more his feet slide out of bed to the knee. He can't sit up as you would normally do then. I've just been hanging onto his legs and he was hanging onto the bedside table till we were rescued. The sensor that's supposed to tell them when he starts getting up was triggered by me diving across to catch him not by his feet " getting out".

This time he's well over to the wall and almost on his back. Hopefully that will help.

I know bed rails are not used in the home. I can't help thinking that what he needs - he isn't struggling / climbing it's a gentle passive curling that sticks his feet out I think.

Is there anything anyone else has encountered that would help? They don't use fitted sheets or id be tempted to try the toddler bed trick with the pool noodle at the edge !

Eep

What about the wedges that normally go under the mattress to raise the head of a bed? Maybe a couple along the side would tilt him slightly towards the wall so his legs stay in bed.
I'm really surprised the home have no suggestions to make.

The night team have used a pillow by the table at the head end. The don't seem to have any other immediate strategies. Been googling body pillows / bolsters. I suppose sticking his arm chair against the bed is still an entrapment risk.

Sleep. I need sleep ! I shall be working tomorrow with our without it :(

Never mind better for dad and me to be here than in a&e again ( and I've no idea how a hospital could stop him falling out of bed at all !

Those are great - and have the advantage that they can be moved up or down the bed.

Mum was sliding out of bed, and has a sort of half bed rail that the OT had fitted which also helps her sit up in bed

Ot came today and a high low bed and crash mat are coming tomorrow. The team seem happy with that so fingers crossed . He's a bit better today but still a huge crash compared with 3 weeks ago :(
