Does anyone have experience of moving an older person between care homes? I'm moving my grandmother from Lancashire to London and need to organise a private ambulance so she can sleep for the journey. Any recommendations would be great.

Can social services help? Or the care homes? This must happen often. Good luck.

A while back we got a private Red Cross ambulance to move an elderly relative from the south of England to be nearer other family members in Scotland. At that time there wasn't a change per say but they gave an indication of typical donations others had given the Red Cross for similar journeys. So we gave a donation. Don't know if they still do it.

When we moved my MIL from a NHS hospital to a care home two hours away, the hospital provided an ambulance, free of charge. Could your hospital do this? OR they may be able to suggest a company that can. Good luck.

the care home probably uses an ambulance transport company for things like hospital visits etc, ask them who they use, and they may know the scale of charges.
I have just googled 'private ambulance mytown' and the first results were ones I know that the hospital and care homes use.
Good luck for an easy transfer for your grandmother

ETA: I am presuming that your grandmother is already in a care home,
also, you need to book the ambulance from the start town, some can be a bit unreliable and give you four hour windows of arrival arriva I'm looking at you but having escorted patients accross country, the ambulance crew will look after you and yours.
