I am helping to spread the word about SchoolsLowCarbonDay24thJune2010. (Website www.lowcarbonday.com)
Organised on an entirely voluntary basis by a group of parents concerned about climate change, the aims of SchoolsLowCarbonDay are
- to educate children about climate change;
- to focus children (and hopefully families as well) on their own energy consumption / carbon footprint;
- to encourage action by asking children / families to cut their carbon footprint in some way.
310schools (both primary and secondary) representingsome120,000pupils have already signed up since launch on 7th September.
The aim is to get 1millionschoolchildren to take part. With a small effort, 1 million schoolchildren could cut their carbon footprint by 30,000 tonnes a year. They could also influence their parents to do much much more than this.
It's easy for schools to take part as lotsandlotsoflessonplanshavealreadybeenprepared. The website is www.lowcarbonday.com.
