Private schools in Surrey/Berks

Hi All

Having seen the Eton thread I'm interested to know if any mums out there can recommend other good private schools for my ds from age 11 or 13. We live between Woking and Sunningdale but would love to move to one of the Guildford villages. Don't want him to board.

Does anyone have personal experience of any schools in these areas?

Thanks!

Should also say we're not posh enough for Eton! We don't have that kind of cash or lifestyle.

My ds is very good at Maths and Science and very sociable. Can take or leave English!

thanks

There aren't that many day schools that accept boys in the area, I'm afraid.

DS will be going to St George's College in Addlestone, which is about the only one there is around here that is selective. For non-selective, there's Licensed Victuallers School in Ascot.

If you are moving closer to Guildford, there will be more - Reeds in Cobham is quite a good one, St John's Leatherhead etc.

The best thing is to look at the ISIS website.

there's the royal grammar school in guildford. I was at school in guildford decades ago so things have probably changed a lot since then but it was a very good school (and friends who live there seem to think it's still got a good reputation).

Lanesborough School (central-ish Guildford) takes boys up to 13 and from there they tend to go to the Royal Grammar School (also central Guildford) and other schools. Lanesborough is at the end of our road and our neighbours on both sides have sent their boys there and rave about it.

We've got two girls so I'm otherwise rather hazy about boys' schools!

PS: The worlds' leading authority on boys' schools in this part of Surrey is KS, if you can tempt her out of MNet retirement.

Hi LIZS

Is it a relatively modern house and a family with a couple of youngish children?

If so, I've been meaining to introduce myself to them for months (we are, I think, the only other family on the street with pre-school children). But I keep chickening out in case they think I'm a looney or they're horrible.

They really will think I'm a looney if I kick off with 'you don't know me but I'm a friend of LIZS, well kind of, I've never actually met her...'

I know you asked about private, but St Crispins in Wokingham has an exceedingly good reputation in maths and science.

Issymum , probably the same family. They have 2 girls, aged 6 and 4, been there since last September and have recently had some work done to the front of the house. I don't think she would consider you completely insane ! She is aware of MN and my real name isn't too hard to guess. Anyway I'm due to email her so can suggest she looks out for you !

LIZS: I'm pretty sure that that's the one. Perhaps you could CAT me if you have a minute and I can give you my 'real name' to put into your email. It really would be great to get to know another family in our street and an introduction from you would be fantastic!
