I have a 9 1/2 yr. old son who is lacks the desire to try at school and is therefore suffering in his academics to the point where he may be held back yet another year. HELP!!!!

Have you spoken to his teacher and do either of you have any idea what is at the root of his problem? Is he being expected to do too much, are is he bored because he is under stimulated? Have you spoken to the schools SENCO to see if he has 'special needs' that could be helped? Have the school put in any sort of additional measure, or are they just jumping to keeping him back a year? Sorry to have little helpful advice. I hope that things improve.

Trae - I have a son the same age. You say he lacks the desire to try - is this in every subject or are there specific areas where he struggles more i.e reading or writing or maths etc. My ds' friend is really struggling with his handwriting, reading and general concentration and the school is currently looking into getting him tested for dyslexia and dyspraxia. I am not saying this is the case for your ds but may be worth looking into the possibility.
