People were dicussing it at work but I dismissed it as idle chatter but has anyone else heard similar.

I do know my council, Dorset has money in the banks concerned.

It was mentioned as a fairly remote possibility in the Metro (very crap free London paper) a couple of days ago, tsap. I don't think my LA has Icelandic savings but my partner's definitely does. He will not be a happy bunny if he isn't paid, I can tell ee.

there is no way on earth that would happen

<gavel that dismisses gossip>

I work for one of the welsh authorities which had money in them.

I can't speak for other authorities but the money we had was on long term deposit and was not going to come back for 3 months, and had this not happened would have gone back on deposit, so would not be used for payroll.

We also had a statement from the CHief Exec saying salaries were going to be paid ok this month.

I think its scaremongering in the media rather than fact.

Thought as much, some people seemed really worried.
