just a quick question. my dd is 3 in april and will be going to the school nursery in september when shes 3.5 yrs so i know that will be free. however she currently goes 3 mornings per wk to a local pre school. its ofsted inspected and all that and she will continue there until the end of the summer term. as she is 3 in april should she qualify for a free place from the easter term onwards as that is officially ' the term after she is 3 '?thanks in advance xx

depends when in april she is 3 as easter term starts beginning of april and unless she is 3 on 1st then it will be september! its the term after she is 3 so if her birthday is middle or end of april it will be september!

they should do it automaitcally but may be an idea to ask about increasing to 5 seeions at easter so you can use the grant to full capacity!!!!

Your nursery should give you a form to fill out. There is usually a cut off point for the whole LEA and it may well be that the cut off is 31st March or 1st April so it might be worth calling to find out.

My dd2 is 3 on 3.04.05 too ! I had a conversation with my Local council early years team about entitlement and although they told me that the nursery grant is available from the term after she turns three ( summer term starting on 5th April by my reckoning) , they said whe wont be eligible until Sept 05....apparently there is a cut off date but can't for love nor money get to the bottom of when the cut off date is or why they say the term after 3rd birthday if they don't mean it ! hope you have more luck with your local authority..

it all depends on the area you live i.e the council as when they start there terms and when there cut off is.

Easter is early this year so the cut for most councils is end of march even though they don't start back till april 5th ish, so if your dd's birthday is april then the next starting term is september so funds start from then.

hope that makes sense.
