Dd 6.10 has done street jazz for a year now, but her teacher is moving the class to the local dance school. Her class is 1/2 hour will now change to 1hr which as she is the youngest in the class by a year and the oldest are 10. She finds it hard to keep up with the group for 1/2hr let alone 1hr. So I talked to her teacher about other classes at the dance school may suit her better. Modern is the closest they have.
She tried out the grade 1 class yesterday loved it. But the time is awful but have noticed the grade 2 is a much better time. She looked like one of the eldest and found the grade 1 easy. Anybody got child doing modern dance and can guide to the rough ages of the grades. Is if worth me putting her name down and hope she will go up fairly soon.

Meant to add can't ask the dance school till after half term (close for half term) but wanted to have made up our minds by then to ensure she gets a place for next term.

My dd2 attends lessons in ballet, tap and modern, slightly different from street dance different exam boards I think, she took grade 1 modern at 5 and will do grade 5 next week shes 11 but our dance school allows no mixing of age groups regardless of ability,

DD2 took grade 2 modern when was 7.DD1 was 8. They are both now in grade 4 (dd2 skipped a grade because of show year and she had covered all the sylabus for grade 3 anyway) but don't think she'll be ready for a while and the girls who will take it this summer are all in their teens the age range in their grade 4 class goes from 9 to 14!

My DD just had her Modern Grade 1 exam a couple of weeks ago and starts her Grade 2 class tomorrow. She and the other girls who took the exam with her are 8 1/2.

It depends on the exam board. Dd is 6 and does ballet and is in a Grade 1 class as the time suits us better than the lower grade, but she isn;t allowed to take the exam until she is 7 years old. Grade 2 is usually about 8 years old for her exam board.

DD2 is 8 and in a Grade 2 class. DD1 is 10 and in a Grade 3 class. I wouldn't be in a hurry to get her through the exams - it costs a blinking fortune.

I'm a dance teacher. Depends on the Syllabus (exam board) but the gist is
Primary - 4 to 7 yrs
Grade 1 6-8
Grade 2 8-9
grade 3 most are 10.
