I have a daughter at Charterhouse sixth form. She loves it. Academically thriving in a way that didn't happen at previous school and enjoying the sports much more too. Pastoral care is excellent.

Hurtwood is great if you can afford it. There is a Hurtwood “type” - generally quite artsy, individual, square peg in round hole type kids. Massive focus on performing and visual arts, not the place for science nerds or sporty types. But if you fit they really do wring the best out of the students. It’s a full on life but the added value is amazing. They are doing school visits, I’d strongly recommend it if you can to get a feel for it as it’s quite unique

King's Canterbury is fantastic. Multilinguals will appreciate the MFL-offering. The sports programme has serious breadth.

Having been disappointed with DD's choice school this year I would want to know the following in your position:

What percentage of fees were paid by day pupils in T3 2019/20 and same for boarders?

What percentage of fees were paid by day pupils in T2 2020/21 and same for boarders?

What sports, performing arts, activities, freedoms etc were there in T1 2020/21 compared to a normal year?

What provision was made for incoming sixth form students in T3 2019/20 compared to existing Y11 students staying on.

You could end up with quite different answers and it might help you to get a better measure of a school away from the glossy brochures and all singing, all dancing websites.

Than you teenage years for that reply. Obviously with covid each school is doing their very best in what are very unusual circumstances. Every school in the country will continue to do their best under what are difficult restraints. Whatever happens pupils will still need a school next year! And parents can only do their best to help their children find what will be the best place for them.

Yes have asked those questions about integration of new pupils each school do very similar things.
Obviously Hurtwood house everyone is a new pupil so does not apply.

The others have a large group which are integrated amongst the various houses. Thank you to those parents with actual pupils at these schools who explain that the pupils are happy and the pastoral care is good.

@marsden9 Hi, have a DS joining CH for Sixth Form next year and will be choosing houses, heard the boys houses (much older) have different personalities, does your DS think the same with the girls' houses?

@Belgmal199 Yes I would say that both the boys and girls houses have different personalities. I have a son there too, he just started this year (also very happy). Much of the character is of course driven by the individual housemaster/mistress, so worth meeting those you like the sound of from the website.
