Year 2 - Bubble Writing - Why???

ds1 has just gone back to school yesterday. When he came home I asked if he had a good day, he said yes but found the bubble writing a little difficult.

When I went into his classroom this morning there were two numbers on the wall in bubble style which they had to do. ds2 also said they had to write the date in bubble syle.

Why would they do this? I have said I will practise bubble writing this weekend as he is getting his knickers in a twist about it.

Anybody do any links for bubble writing worksheets?

Please come and share your wisdom with me please

A lot of the yr2s I worked with last year used to use bubble writing anywhere they got the chance, posters etc. They thought it looked really cool.

Very rarely was it formed correctly!

Do you think the teacher may have used it as a 1st day, settling in, fun kind of thing?

i havent got a clue why he was doing it. I thought it was bizare to be doing it. ds1 said he kept telling him to do it again, I am going to ask why they are doing it.

I just wanted to check I wasnt the only one who thought it was a strange thing to be doing.

I have told ds1 not to be at all worried about it.

I can't picture bubble writing - what is it?

hippi, the best way i can describe it, is fat chucky and curvy and there is no gap between the numbers and letters if that makes sense, i am sure someone will be able to explain it better than that.

I just dont understand why they were doing it. They are going to be looking at different genres of writing, maybe they are going to be designing posters of something.

My ds's school introduced cursive script from reception a year ago. It's caused no END of problems! DS (6.5) makes each letter with about 4 pencil strokes, usually finishing with the 'lead IN' stroke! Lord help us if he gets onto bubble writing!

this is bubble writing

What a strange thing to be expecting the kids to do in Year 2!

I don't know why they did it , but it is the bane of my exsistance sometimes!

Whenever I get kids in KS3 to make me science posters, they just want to spend hours doing the title in bubble writing!

i am so glad everyone agrees with me, why oh why/ I am going to have a word in the morning.

We have been practising today.

I will let you all know tomorrow.

ds1 has really got his knickers in a twist.

The weird thing is, when I did bubble writing ds1 told me not to join it together, so I am really lost why they are doing it.

oh, and if it is art related ds1 is doomed, he takes after me in the art talent department. Lack of, not one of my better traits.

Blind leading the blind springs to mind

Why are they taught this crap? I am an Art Tacher, and this bubble crap is banned in our department. Pupils are not allowed to use it in our lessons.

D&T think the same, and we are introducing a policy in our school to promote decent lettering on posters, instead of this. To find they are being taught it in KS1 is unbelievable.

Bubble writing.. Grrr...bane of my exisatence. Has no artisic merit at all, and am sure it is NOT anywhere in the National Curriculum

Glad it's not just we grumps in the Science department who hate it so, Fizzbuzz!!!!

The little buggers have a fixation about it.

Now I make them do all the science on the poster first before they can do any decoration.

They are also rather fixed on double mounting everything!

It is policy in our school, not to use this crap. Felt pen and black outlines, ugh ugh ugh, it contains everything we spend the whole of KS3 trying to make them unlearn. It's like teaching KS1 text speak/writing, which has no literacy merit at all.

As for screwed up tissue paper balls as a method of collage...don't get me going... I pull them off whatever they appear on in Y7. Harsh I know....but again no artistic merit

Well quote me! It takes us 5 years to make them unlearn this rubbish.

It's use tends to peak in Yr10
