Uniform, but much of it can be bought anywhere (and I tend to buy less other clothing as they're in their uniform most of the week).

The only thing that really irks me is that the dcs school requires poncey socks at £7 per pair...

I think that the dcs are allowed to bring in their own pencil case from Year 3.

I spent almost £200.00 on complete uniform and sports kit as DGD is going to up to year 7 this year, (Secondary School)It was the sports kit that cost so much.

Hulababy Wed 15-Aug-07 22:40:15

Fortunately not too much for now. DD will be going back in summer dress - which she can wear until October half term and insists on doing so! So we will use the same two dresses as she had before. Her blazer and cardigan still fit as they were quite big when bought. Got new plimsolls in last term which still fit and I think her ballet slippers still fit, but must check. PE kit still fits too, as does ballet outfit. Lunch apron and art apron all one size and still fit.

She will need new school shoes.

Come October half term though she will need at least one new pinafore dress, think one still fits. She also will need a new winter coat (uniform one) - which is a big expense! Her blouses will still fit I think, at least until after Christmas.

Must remember to get new pencils, crayons, etc. as her pencil case was looking rather empty!

Anyone got a teeny (1/4 or 1/2 size, fit a 6 year old) violin? That will be my biggest expense I think.

Oh and later in this academic year I think we have to get a school swim suit and towel, and possible a track suit (???) and possibly a tennis racket of some form. I am assuming someone will tell me what and when, lol!

ChasingSquirrels Wed 15-Aug-07 22:42:36

ds1 is starting reception, uniform, gym bag and kit, shoes, total cost under £50.

Stuffy Wed 15-Aug-07 22:42:52

If you include shoes, trainers and rugby boots, the total has come to £600. It is not good.

Ladymuck Wed 15-Aug-07 22:42:53

Yep. The socks cost more than the trousers and shirt together. In fact with the M&S 3 for 2 offer I suspect that the socks = trousers plus shirt plus tie.

Hence I label socks...

Kerry - start saving for secondary! Lots of first year books are 3 year jobs, huge and expensive. And after 3 years use no use for 2nd hand. And get a rental scheme started in primary.

Shoshable Wed 15-Aug-07 22:49:11

DGD had to have a Rugby Shirt £32.00, Black school logo'd track pants £32.00 logo'd polo sport shirt 1.00 black shorts (£5.00 got them from ASDA) Black Dance kit £ 25.00, Mouth Guard £5.00 Trainers, Rugby Boots, Dance Shoes, Plimsolls, and that was just the sports kit!

Only two but one is starting at a new school. The uniform requirements include a winter coat, a blazer, special socks the works. All to be bought at one school shop that has a monopoly. I am overdrawn now.

cba Wed 15-Aug-07 22:56:42

DS1 = 5 pairs of new socks £25
new shoes and trainers £60
2 pairs of new shorts £25.00

ds2 whole rig out just starting £330
new shoes and trainers £60

Total cost £420.00

Shoshable Wed 15-Aug-07 22:57:04

Stuffy are yours going to private or state school, DGD is state school, we can afford the uniform, but how the hell do others who cant do it, Ex DIL asked about clothing help (she is on IS) and was told she was entitled to 1 school shirt and one sweatshirt) hence we bought the uniform.

I'd say it'll be about 80 euros for dd2 workbooks (5th class) - hate workbooks, do it on a page I say. We have a rental scheme, pta organise it - you need a bossy organised type. Bulk buy the books and rent them out, but you can't do workbooks - reader, Irish, dictionaries etc. Probably 100 each for ds and dd2. DD2 is 2nd year so a lot of last year's texts, Ds is transition so only 4 subjects - But computer driving licence, field trips etc. First year - about 400 for books and stationery, 150 for uniform (40 for crested jumper), about 50 for tracksuit.... Are you entitled to Back to School allowance, a well kept secret?
