What's this about 7 year old SATS?

Just heard a snippet from Five Live, but had the hoover on ... they're scrapping them but still need to sit them ???????

maybe they don't need to correlate the results which they do atm but dont need to publish them. They're all a pile of cr*p IMHO. Kids have peaks & troughs in learning like everything else.

I heard something about them being scrapped because they'd realised that a teacher's assessment of a pupil is just as (if not more) accurate than these tests.

I heard this on GMTV and thought they said that though they would still be tested for english and maths the teachers assessment for the year would also be taken into account. I could have misheard this. Personally was hoping it would be scrapped altogether.

Thanks for that link Hulababy - sounds like a step in the right direction at least.

DS1 did KS1 SATs last year: He wasn't stressed by the tests at all - quite enjoyed them in fact. But he was very stressed by the fact that because his teacher was busy with small groups of children doing SATs tests, tasks, mocks, bla bla bla the majority of the class were taught by a supply teacher for WEEKS. It is so disruptive, and surely there are better things for a teacher to spend such huge chunks of time on.
