Hello ,
We are looking at this school for our son for y6 and then into seniors . He’s not very sporty and very middle of road academically but a happy chap who seems to have a lot of friends ...... I hear the head is leaving ? Any current parents advise ? Thanks !

I think if what you want is a family feel school with small class sizes, Thorpe does a good job

Davenies at Beaconsfield would be better. If you want DS prepped for a certain school, go to a prep that does the job you want.

What about Caldicott? I heard good things about it admittedly a few years ago

Thanks all ..: I want a through school
As know it’s so much more competitive at 11 . I’ve heard great things about davenies but we are far from rich sonthino our son will stand out and also don’t want him to board at secondary so out options after are limited x

I think its pretty good for less sporty averagely academic children. You could also look at Claire's Court in Maidenhead.

I agree - I know quite a few people who are happy

What’s wrong with the state schools then? None are crappy in that area! Then pay for a decent senior school having saved quite a bit of money. I cannot see what advantage this school gives over a decent state school. It won’t be that difficult to get in later if that’s what you want.

She is looking at yr 6 - one year off senior school. Not a good idea to move after one year. Thorpe also has small class sizes

Because you have a guaranteed place to the senior school. Believe me - the competition is hot. At a similar school last week 36 pleased available and 239 kids sitting exam for it ...
The other places were give to the prep school kids coming up

But if you want all through, does Thorpe not only go up to 16? Don't you want your boy do a levels? Competition for 16+ entry at good schools is more fierce than at 11+, in what I gather.

Agree with Yogalover 71, we too are looking at Thorpe House for year 7 entry in Sept having missed 11+ intake this year (we are overseas). Late entry to grammar school is not a given. Didn't know Head was leaving??

Yes he’s leaving for sure ( my understanding is that he and another member of staff are leaving together if you catch my drift ..). I want to see who new Head is before we look round again...

Go to Caldicott if you can get in and leave after y8? Boys independents recruit for y9. That gives stability for 6th form. You don’t have to transfer at 11.

Hmmmm not sure we are Caldecott people ! Private school fees are a huge sacrifice for us and also we wouldn’t want our son to board .
