Teachers using mobiles in class - and a lost child!

I’d massively appreciate advice from people with experience as to wether I’m being silly or should be concerned.

There has been a high staff turn over at or children’s school - and after several weeks about any action I had to let the school know that all their nominated safeguarding leads had left. The quickly appointed a member of staff to head it up - and on talking to her she was suprised that the policy said that teachers shouldn’t have mobile phones in the class. Not only is the culture at the school they have them, but will take calls in class. What’s the normal
Policy on this?
This was followed by an incident last week - my DC normally walks home. I called and emailed the school and asked them to keep them in school Andy I would collect as weather was torrential. My message was acknowledged - but not passed on. I consequently turned up to collect her - but was called by another parent as she had been let out early and wasn’t half a mile down the road. The staff involved laughed it off - I’ve emailed school but no follow up. It’s a class on 14 in a single form entry school - so not difficult to pass info on! This hasn’t happened twice. Should I be concerned or am I being too precious?

You should be worried. Not so much with the situation about not getting a message to your child because that can go wrong for any number of reasons.
However you having to tell the school they have no safeguarding lead is very worrying and mobiles in classrooms is a definite concern for me if they are the teachers own mobiles and they are getting calls during class time. This sounds like a school with little or no effective management

That doesn't sound normal. in my DC's class I very much doubt the teachers have mobile phones in the class room (if they do they're put away and certainly not receiving calls! If there is an emergency they could be contacted via the school reception.). I'm also shocked that they had no safeguarding staff member and no awareness they needed one!

I've never heard of a school that doesn't have a policy around mobile phones (more specifically, cameras)

Is it a Steiner school?

No - it’s a private prep school! We’ve actually taken the decision to move as soon as we can get a place in local state school. Thanks for your advice! Xx
