Dim question about school uniforms (blazers)

Ds is moving from a school where the uniform is shirt and fleece/jumper. He has a coat to wear on top if it is rainy.
His new school uniform is shirt, tie and blazer. So should I expect to get a coat large enough to go over the blazer or do the kids just get wet?

coat goes over blazer - or at least it did in my day

At the school I worked out many children wore coats over the tops of the blazers in the winter.

DD's school only has blazers for the summer. They have a waterprrof mac thing to go over it if raining.

Blazer all year round?

My DDs wear their blazers in the summer and keep a lightweight waterproof in their bags in case of rain.

They wear heavier coats/jackets in the colder months.

depends on school - some places insist on blazers all the time inc indoors for lessons etc, in which case get a coat that fits over the top - but others treat them as an optional jacket, in which case he'll wear a coat instead in the winter.

We have a school-reg raincoat to go over the blazer. How thick is the blazer - you will need to factor in the overall warmth when looking at raincoat options.

Thanks!

The uniform list doesn't mention if blazers are for summer only, and there is no school reg. mac/coat mentioned.
I'm not sure how thick the blazer is - have only visited the school twice, will be buying the uniform next week (second hand if I can )
I'll expect to be needing to buy a waterproof and see what the 'approved' shop has in stock I guess.

My brother wore a blazer at school and I absolutely cannot remember him ever wearing a mac over it - even in winter!

My ds wears a blazer all day every day but neither he nor anyone else wears a coat on top, they'd rather sit shivering in a soaking wet blazer all day than be so uncool as to wear a coat on top.

I'd hang fire on buying a coat just for school till you're sure he'd actually wear it.

Ours is blazer or coat, not both, and some wear blazer all winter .

Blazer all year round here and must be worn in lessons. Coat can be worn over blazer in winter but in reality very few children wear one.

Not cool to wear anything other than blazer - can be howling gale, deep snow and minus-10 and DD still insisting she'll be fine. Did buy her woollen top coat for winter months, but she only wore it a few times!! Managed to get her to wear a scarf some days. Then gave up and tried to do the arched eyebrow when she complained of the cold. Arched eyebrow didn't work - and neither did the nagging. Trying to think of another solution for next winter now - and failing miserably .

thermal underwear and a black waterproof in ds's schoolbag is my solution. Blazers on all day, even on top of PE kit, on the way to and from the PE hall/swimming etc. I believe they can take them off during PE/swimming lessons, though!

OK, so my brother was ahead of his time in the blazer-only stakes. Thanks everyone.

I have re-read the uniform list more carefully and have now found reference to a blue or green(!) coat. But don't think I'll buy one until I see at least 2 boys in his class wearing one. He's only year 1 so maybe the boys will still listen to their mums? Maybe not

Milge - v amused by the blazers on top of PE kit
