Hillyfields is very good - opens at 8 and closes at 6 so would fit in the hours you need. Let me know if you want their address and number

If you phone up Lewisham Council (8314 6000)and ask to speak to the early years team they will send you out a list of all the nurseries in the borough from council, private and voluntary. I suspect its also on the council's website as well.

There's a Montessori one on Chudleigh Road does those hours - can't remember the name.

SE could also mean greenwich and Southwark - you could probably try the same approach.

Good Montessori in Mottingham where you can do short days I believe - but it would help to know whereabouts in SE London...
some local private schools have a pre-prep department that would meet your needs too

Gosh tigeryuan if you are in Forest Hill I'd strongly recommend checking out what is available over that way. Lewisham in the rush hour is horribly congested, really not to be driven unless essential. Whenever I've had to come through by bus at around 8.30 it has been gridlocked, seriously.
I thought there were loads of good nurseries in the Dulwich/East Dulwich areas?

I don't think nurseries do hourly rates though .. just mornings / afternoons or whole days because by taking your child 9 - 3 they won't be able to take another child that day will they

some state schools accept nursery children all day .. I know our school's nursery has 10 full-time places

good luck though

i'm expecting no. 2 this Aug. and I'll be on marternity for 9mths or 1 yr. I want to look after my newborn full time and my son could go to nursery from 9-3pm.

there are lots of nurseries around, but most of them are from 9 - 5 or 6pm and they're not cheap! I know that because my son goes to nursery from 8ish - 6pm 5 days pwe week.

i wont get much pay while i'm on maternity as you all know that!

i dont want my son to go just a morning or afternoon section too!

its difficult!! i know!

Chelwood is a full-time state nursery, but I think it's hard to get a place.

motherinferior - they actually offered my son a place last year (Sept i think), but only for the morning section.
i need to work full time & cant accept the offer in the end.

they told me that they normally offer kids a full-time place when they're around 5yrs whcih is before they go to primary school.

I think frankly you would be better finding a childminder if you need that level of cover. There are some fabulous ones in the area, I know - I've used them for six years!

I agree I think you'll find a childminder to be a better option - although there's no harm in asking the nurseries if they do a shorter day.

When I was looking for a nursery, I loved Saplings (as previously recommended) and wanted DD1 (now 3) to go there as I couldn;t find another nursery I liked - I also live in FH and DH made me realise was a nightmare journey it would be. Luckily the nursery she goes to now (Hillyfields) opened up a baby room so we were OK, she still goes there and loves it - low staff turnover and extremely friendly and caring staff

One possibility would be to find a nursery that does after-school care too- ds's used to, so then they'd be only too pleased to have someone leaving at 3pm.

location of Hillyfields is really good. but, not sure they'll do shorter hrs tho.

i'm not sure about childminder as I never used one in the past if you know what i mean.

mishw - thats a good idea to find a nursery that does after-school care!

thx all for you advise!

can't take the credit for the after school nursery care I'm afraid that was Tamum! I'd still give Hillyfields a call if I were you, you never know

I used to be in FH but not now, so might be a bit out of touch, but have you tried St William of York? Primary School on Brockley Park. They opened a nursery just as we were leaving SE London!

Does you lo qualify for the nursery grant yet? If so you may be able to get bursery care for the shorter hours as this is what I am in the middle of sorting out at the moment.

DD1 is able to do 2 of her free session on 1 one (however we would have to pay for the lunch hour) and that is basically 9.30 - 3.30 but I'm sure that that could be shifted 1/2 hour to suit your hours
