Staines Preparatory School

Is this school good. My child has been offered a place alongwith a bursary covering 50% tuition fees. Will it be worth paying 1200 pounds a term? The child is on Gifted & Talented list in his school and can make good use of a good education.

Thanks in advance.

It wouldn't be my top choice of prep school for that area, but 50% off fees is not to be sniffed at. Yes, the 1200 a term will be well worth it.

Thanks for your reply scienceteacher. Which school would be on the top of your list in that area?

A more traditional prep school, such as Bishopsgate

Bishopsgate seems more expensive and a bit out of the way. My wife works accross the road from Staines Prep plus the bursary would make me choose that school.

Absolutely, MumsMan. I think those are both very compelling reasons for choosing Staines Prep.

I used to nanny for a child who went there . It was out of all the private schools (and there are many ) my favorite . It is full of working parents who work literally to send their kids to private school . Fab place .

Thanks scienceteacher and Paros. Am going to see the principal of his present school tomorrow. She has taught him in his G&T group for almost a year. I am worried about my child as he is changing so fast. He lacks innitiative now and thinks hardwork burdonsome. He was never like this before. All homework sessions start with 'I can't do this.' He used to be so enthusiastic and forthright. Maybe a private education can cure this negative approach.

Spoke to a colleague of mine last night whose boy is a class fellow of my boy's. He also complained about the negative changes in his boy's behavior. I am sure the school is failing these kids. I have made up my mind to send my boy to Staines Prep. Will send the registration fees next week. The principal of his present school is desperate to keep him there. We had a long meeting and she almost convinced me to keep my boy with her but later on I decided that he had to change his school. I took my boy to Staines Prep and shoowed him around. He likes the school. Had a long meeting with the headmaster at Staines and I found him very very approachable and convincing. So my mind is made up now. A huge financial commitment, specially when I have three other kids who will get the same education as their eldest brother
