In my school it was first year of GCSEs- school started with Upper Thirds -up to Upper Fifth then Sixth Form. No idea why, unless to get to 6 slowly!

Well - we had 5th form which was standard O'lvel year - and I'm afraid Upper Fifth was just the retakers ! So most peeps went straight from 5th form to Lower Sixth, which was also called 6i (six one) and upper sixth was also called 6ii (six two) - and then for A'level retakers there was 6iii (six three) !!

Everyone following ?

3rd remove is where Nick and Lawrie were shamefully placed in Autumn Term, Pamina. I presume your Remove was different?

well just to confuse matters for us Lower V was 2 years before O levels
upper iv, lower v, middle v, upper v (o levels), lower vi upper vi.

PPH that was EXACTLY the same system at my school (famous girsl school in Kent). although I suspect that your "middle v" rather than just "v" suggests they were different schools.......

My senior school started at IIIA which always seemed completely barking. Followed by IVB, IVA, VB (Lower Fifth I guess) and 'O' Level year: VA.

DD1's junior school is like Pamina's and starts very confusingly with Kindergarten, progresses through Lower and Upper Transition and then Lower, Middle and Upper Prep before ending with an insane flourish at Form 1.
