School trousers too cold

Aaviiii · 26/11/2017 15:54

I'm hoping someone can help me DS1 is in Year 7.
The past week or so he's been going to school wearing pyjama bottoms underneath his school trousers because he is cold. As they are not ideal can someone suggest something else that I could buy.

Thermals? M&S usually have some, or sport skins might work.

Underarmour? Buy it in the sports shop

My son wears his long football socks when it's cold.

I would buy some thermals and wool blend socks

It is cold. But most kids cope without thermals, Aldi have just got ultra cheap thermals in. Has he always been a boy that us affected by the cold or is it a new thing?

Long johns. I used to buy them from Asda for my boys.

'Skins' - sports leggings type things that kids who play football wear when it's cold, can get them in Sports Direct.

Uniqlo also do great thermals.

I used to wear leggings under my school trousers many moons ago!
Could he do that? (Not sure if boys are into leggings though!)

N.c
Long johns are a great idea! I think having something close to the skin creating layers is a good idea.

Came on to say long johns. DS wears them under his cadet uniform or when he's at work (outdoor job). Asda do some that wash and wear well.

Base layers such as UnderArmour are good.

Where do you live? Is it unseasonably cold there and does he have a long wait for a school bus? Mine used to be out in all temperatures and never seemed to notice the cold, despite the wind whipping over the fields whilst hey stood at the bus stop (no shelter). Would a hot breakfast help (porridge, or eggs etc)?

My ds is no older, but I drive past year 07 - 11 waiting at the bus stop in the mornings and there seems to be a fashion at the moment for the boys to be in shorts. I'm waiting to see if that's still the case when the temperatures drop!

Thank you everyone for your replies.
**defineme he's normally never cold. He's rejected leggings because apparently the other kids will laugh when he get changed for PE or gym. I'll have a look at the sports leggings maybe they will do.

My ds wears thermal socks that can be pulled up to his knees! Can push them down before changing for pe!

It's the nasty 100% polyester that most school trousers are made of, freezing in winter.

Gap has heavy cotton school trousers, but they tend to mainly have them in June and only online. I have found that Next school trousers (cargo style) are of a heavier material than most. I think John Lewis has cotton mix school trousers.

I recently bought two sets of thermals for my five year old from Lidl. The bottoms are tight so would work well under school trousers

Skins or base layers would work. If he’s wearing pyjama bottoms though and people aren’t laughing then he can probably get away with leggings!

Buy some decent wool trousers?

I used to wear base layers under my school uniform and I also do at work because I am always freezing.

You can buy lined school trousers from many uniform shops. £25+ a pair though.

Rejected leggings but PJs didn't get laughed at?
Lycra leggings would make sense.

I can't get my yr5 kid out of shorts!

Yeah the base layer ones (I'll add decathlon to the other suggestions) look quite sporty and cool so might be acceptable in the changing room!
