A decent dictionary fir a child.
I did buy some Oxford junior one however every word dd has gone to look up doesn't appear to be in there Hmm

Obviously I don't want one so expansive it weighs a ton but one that has a really good range but the definition is understandable for a child.

A decent thesaurus would be good too.

Tia

In that case you may find the Heinemann English Dictionary good - link for WHSmith but available at loads of other places.

www.whsmith.co.uk/products/heinemann-english-dictionary-heinemann-english-dictionary-5th-revised-edition/9780435104245

Both DCs were recommended this when they started (different) secondaries and I think it is really good - contains grammar tips and warnings about common errors on mixing up similar words etc.
