preferences for secondary school

Somehow we manage to live in the catchment area of four schools (including two faith schools) our first preference DS2 has a good chance of getting into although it is fairly oversubscribed but we really don't want the school which is closest but probably better than one Ed A would just allocate

I will put the other two as second and third choice (to avoid this other school) but as one is grammar if DS is on a good day and does well in exam would education authority insist on the grammar school rather than joining brother at the first choice (?preference) school.

System was different when DS1 applied just do not want DS at the closest school
