Religion in school - is this normal?

DS (6) is in year 1 of a non faith school.
He's been coming home talking about all sorts of different religions, places of worship and faiths for the last few months.
All good: the school's very inclusive, it's a culturally mixed area.
But this morning he's explained to me in great detail about the angel of death taking first born children, rivers of blood, 10 plagues and bloody crosses being painted on doors.
It all seems much too gratuitous and blood thirsty for 5 and 6 year olds.
Any opinions on whether this is appropriate? I'd love to hear from teachers!

It all sounds pretty normal to me.

Was he relishing it, or upset by it? If it was regularly upsetting pupils, teachers wouldn't ' do it. And they do know what plays well to their classes.

Sounds normal to me too. And it's difficult to cover Judaism without the bloody bits.

He didn't seem too bothered by it which was a surprise as he's usually very upset about death and can't accept that people die.

Glad to know it sounds normal to others. I'll try to relax a bit more!
