I've been asked to look at ICT schemes being used in upper primary classes, ones that use spreadsheets and databases. We're currently trying to upgrade our whole ICT programme- we have a brand new computer suite, the computers to go with it, but don't know which scheme is any good. We've looked at a couple but not that impressed.

Aha, I thought, I know just the people who will know!!! So...could you tell me, pretty please, if you know what is half decent, is actually working for the children, and more importantly used by you. Or what doesn't work!!

Can you keep it bumped please

We are in the process of rewriting the QCA scheme because it is so out of date..

You could try the Greenwich site here.

here

This is quite comprehensive and has resources with it.

Otherwise we don't actually use a scheme.

We roughly base ours on the LCP scheme; sample here, but we do fiddle with it a lot, partly because they have over-optimistic expectations of how much you can get through (or maybe just longer lessons than ours)but partly because we think we can improve on it - in fact I think only Year 4 follows it very closely -I adapt Y3, the ICT co-ordinator does Y5 & one of the Y6 teachers does Y6 - we all have our own favourite resources & new things tend to appear more quickly than a published scheme can keep up with.

Thanks very much, didn't know about these ones. Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow in my time out of class

I was in secondary not primary. I used the QCA scheme as a basis and then adapted it, changing the context and level to something more suitable for my pupils.

The stuff on the lancashire grid for learning is very comprehensive like the Greenwich stuff. I have used both of those as starting points very successfully.

Why dont you post on the times educational supplement (TES) website?

We've found the stockton scheme quite useful, its linked to the QCA and can provide a starting point for ICT planning, although we do have to adapt and add our own ideas etc The QCA stuff is becoming a bit tired and out-dated at the moment as children are mastering ICT skills so much earlier than when it was written but following schemes like this do ensure that you are covering the ICT requirements of the National Curriculum.
