Hi, I am the mother of a boy just entered yr7 at Oundle school. We live abroad and this makes it more difficult to get a sense of what happens around the school. I thought the school had a good pastoral care but
I have just read a thread on bad bullying at Oundle school but the original thread has been cancelled. It appears the school doesn't pay any attention to this?
My son needs to choose the house for yr9. Please any advice on the houses at Oundle or on the school itself?
Very worried mum

The post you refer to was quite a while ago and as always there are 2 sides to every story! I explored it extensively before choosing the school and was satisfied with the outcome.
My son has just started at Oundle n Yr9 and we are very happy with his progress and pastoral care. I will pm you with more details.

I know lots of children at Oundle and all are as happy as larry. I'm hoping my ds will go there in a couple of years.
Isolated bullying instances can crop up anywhere, any time. I wouldn't pay much heed to one MN post from years ago.... it won't be reflective of a whole school with a different head years down the line.

Thanks left and right! Always nice to hear people with direct experience of a place!

My DS will start this Sep Y9, any recommendations regarding the choice of Boys' Boarding House at Oundle ?

HappyEJM most of the houses will have been allocated by now, is he sporty, arty etc? Fisher is the 'sporty house', Laundimer is known as the "Scottish House" etc, one of the field houses has a few more foreign boys than the others etc.... Bramston is right in the market square, school house is opposite cloisters and St A's has big grounds of it s own. PM me if you like, I'll try to help further.

I've heard St A has a bit of a reputation for alpha male/hierarchical.
Bramston is a good one but that will already be full. Tvghis atage you'll have to take where you are given as I'd imagine most are full. My number one choice House for my DS was full when DS was just starting his year 6 so three years before entry. He's now got a place at our second choice house. I chose House based on location ie town versus sports field. Choose what you prefer. Also look how much longer the housemaster has to run. Minimum 7?10y years with a 5? Year extension option I think.

Thanks GinGarden & Leftandaright, it's great to have your views regarding the houses. Understand that it's very late now and most houses are full. Just want to express our wish in case there is a place pops up. BTW. Do they change houses every year?

No - they stay in the house for the duration of their time at Oundle. approx. a dozen boys per year group in each house.
