Can anyone recommend non fiction books for year one boy, he's really interested in one we have on history of Britain and one on Ancient Rome, but I suspect would be interested in most things!

National Geographic have a great series called Little kids first big book...eg. of the world/of who (avail on Amazon).
Usborne series is called 'big book of' ...big machines/sea creatures/planets.

Usborne and DJ have some wonderful books. The "see inside" series by usborne are great for this age. There's lots of different topics - we have trains, castles, space, human body, DS loves them.
Usborne also have things like junior science dictionary which covers lots of topics that would then spark off other books ( libraries often have lots of non-fiction for young children, so you can try lots rather than buy).
DK have some great encyclopaedias, think we have a dinosaur one, it's A5 kind of size, and of course, star wars.
The Book People often have nice non-fiction books- we have some nice sets from there, and children's atlas, etc.
We also have some really nice Greek and roman myths books, technically not non-fiction I suppose!

Absolutely everyone needs this book about microbes.

There is also one about poo (sounds horrid but is great).
